Pine Honey

 Pine tree honey is a honeydew type of honey that is produced by bees that collect sugar secretions exerted from certain types of insects living in pine trees. According to the Greek Mythology, pine tree used to be a nymph called Pitys, who was transformed into pine tree by the god Pan. Pine tree honey is one of the most widely produced type of honey in Greece.

  It has a dark, brownish-amber color and due to its low sugar-content, it has a mild sweetness and a resinous flavor. It is not as intense as other types of honey and has a distinct pine aroma.

  Pine tree honey has exquisite nutritional properties and health benefits which are attributed to its composition since it is rich in trace elements and minerals, such as iron, calcium, magnesium and others and it is a good source of potassium, which in turns help with vital organs functions. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and according to a research it has the strongest anti-bacterial properties among the other tested honeys. It is also useful in respiratory conditions and when used externally it helps in dermatological conditions, like acne, aged skin and cellulite.
